Installation

All Industrial occupational health and safety procedures and
precautions must be strictly adhered to when handling glass.

Attention all installation Technicians, Artisans, DIY specialists please read all information below

Meshglass™ is not recommended for floors and should not be exposed to impact, abrasives, thermal shock or installed over flexible surfaces.

For a seamless finish Meshglass™ patterns are interlocking (like a jigsaw).

Example of Interlocking edges - Ribbon Pattern

Allow for some movement in cartage and if required adjust glass by eye with hand and finger pressure to assure best interlocking position. The 3M tacky adhesive on the mesh allows glass re-positioning or removal .

You will need installation tools and a “Hawk” for managing 1 sq ft or 30 x 30 cm sheets. View surface and drop a vertical line to assist with initial survey for positioning on surface area. Good quality installation materials are essential.

Select suitable setting materials compatible to the surface on which you wish to apply Meshglass™.

Install only over well prepared, cured and stable substrates.

Always use white setting materials for light colored stained glass installations.

Mirror and dark stained glass colours hide background influences and may use dark setting materials.

Always use "Mirror Mastic" when installing mirror as it is designed not erode the silver backing.

Meshglass recommends Schluter edge-protection for finishing outside corners etc. www.schluter.com

Generally a cement-based thin set mortar is used with latex / acrylic additives. This allows the flexibility to expand / contract with temperature variations. Expansion joints are of serious consideration in span coverage subject to extreme and fluctuating temperatures. Consider using "Crack Suppression" membranes if expansion / contraction is expected; Most substrates continue to cure and shrink over months. Suppression membranes prevent shrinkage or movement of the substrate.

Installation:

Apply a uniformly thin adhesive bed - Use less quantity of thinset / adhesive in preference to more!

Make sure surface is smooth and thin adhesive bed is well prepared with no air bubbles or unevenness to hinder the glass pieces from making a good bonded connection thru the mesh.

Remove plastic backing from Meshglass™ sheet: Place sheet face down flat on newspaper / covered table surface to prevent scratching. Remove plastic backing by separating and tearing (at a severe angle) the backing from the mesh.

Make sure the glass pieces remain on the mesh backing assuring the pattern geometry. The glass is face down on newspaper covered table surface with the mesh side up. Slide sheet onto Hawk so glass is still in face down position. Position sheet on hawk. Remember spacing is important for Interlocking geometries to assure a seamless finish.

Meshglass is hand made cut glass; each piece is approximate and fits to the sheet template. The mesh is actually a method of transporting the pattern of glass pieces to the artisan's hawk. Position hawk and push sheet & mesh into the setting / adhesive material. Compensate for any movement on the mesh and adjust glass by eye with hand and finger pressure to the best interlocking position. Wipe off excess setting material. If a colour grout is to be used remove any setting / adhesive material from the gaps between the glass piecs to a depth of 1 to 1.5 millimeters to make way for the grout's application. Tap glass with rubber hammer to ensure good flat bonded adhesion.

Wipe off excess setting material and allow setting / adhesive material to cure and set.

Always use unsanded grout to prevent scratching of the glass or mirror surface.

Plain and colour grouts are applied after setting material has set.

Apply grout, finish and wipe clean all excess grout. Allow grout to set.

Finally if a water resistant finish is required add the sealant solution to penetrate the grout.

Clean with a sponge and suitable soap / methylated spirit solution and wipe off with a Chamois cloth for best finish. Enjoy!

Meshglass™ is easily cleaned, glass is resistant to chemicals, solvents, fire and water plus our stained glass décor colours are also resistant to fading, discoloration and staining.

Meshglass is 3mm thick and uses fewer materials for installation and maintenance.
